The Curriculum Guide to the Alabama Course of Study: English Language Arts provides prerequisite and enabling skills that lead to learning grade-level academic standards. The curriculum guide can be used to assist students in learning content in smaller increments, catching up on content they may have missed in previous years, and/or reviewing content related to grade-level academic standards. **Please note: This guide does NOT contain worksheets or activities (links to those are provided below), only the standards the student must be able to know and do by the end of first grade. However, it DOES give you a framework to choose activities and lessons when you see a need to help your student to grasp a concept.

Fry's 100 Words for Second Grade

  • 100 Words List and Flash Cards  You can drill students on this word list using the flash cards as a warm-up and as a closer to the tutoring session. Use the included evaluation at the beginning of the year and at the end of the year to see what the student already may know and then to see what the student learned at the end. By doing evaluations whenver the student is profient You can also use the evaluation sheet periodically to check profiency. Drilling may not the most favorite thing a child likes, so you may want to be prepared with incentives (stickers, small treat) to make drill sessions go more smoothly.

***You can get extra copies of the Evaluations on p. 2 of each grade level by clicking on the 100 Words List and Flash Cards link
